With the holiday season comes a lot of stress. Between buying gifts, preparing food, traveling, and being around family, stress and anxiety levels can be at their peak. It may feel like a test of your tolerance, but rather than letting that energy create a tense environment, try using a product that will make you feel relaxed without any reported risks or side effects: CBD oil.
CBD Oil for Stress
CBD, or cannabidiol, can relieve short-term anxiety and stress, and calm the body down. While it’s derived from the same plant as THC, it is extracted from hemp and doesn’t bring about the paranoia and altered state of mind that is often associated with consuming THC (learn more about the distinctions between CBD and THC in our blog post here). According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), “CBD does not produce euphoria or intoxication,” meaning you can still enjoy the holiday, participate in any planned activities, and interact with loved ones.
So how does CBD oil help stress? The compound of CBD engages with the endogenous cannabinoid system, part of the central nervous system, to impact how the body responds to internal and external stressors. It also binds with a serotonin receptor known as 5-HT1A that is directly linked to anxiety disorders.
While there is not a lot of scientific evidence for CBD’s effect on mental health, the research available shows promise. The NIDA says that CBD acts on certain brain signaling systems that can contribute to therapeutic effects, and there is evidence that it reduces behavioral and psychological measures of stress and anxiety. Additionally, a National Library of Medicine study concluded that CBD exhibited a decrease in anxiety, panic, compulsiveness, and fear.
How Stress Affects Our Bodies
Although the holiday is short and things will be back to normal soon, that doesn’t mean you should put up with stress, especially if you commonly experience it in your daily life. Chronic stress and anxiety can create an ongoing sense of panic in the mind, which can then result in a number of physical effects, including:
- Heart disease
- Weight gain
- Muscle tension
- Chest pain
- Trouble sleeping
Deciding to treat your stress will not only benefit you during your holiday, it will help you feel better mentally, emotionally and physically in the long term.
Using CBD Oil
CBD oil is meant to be taken orally in spray or drop form, either ingested directly on its own or mixed with another drink. Use the method that fits your preferences, and be sure to not ingest more than the recommended dosage, which you should be able to find on the package or bottle. You will likely notice its effects relatively quickly, within 30 minutes to an hour. The known effects of CBD are a lightened mood, a release from stress-inducing thoughts and an overall more relaxed feeling.
Whether your grandma is asking you personal questions, your mom needs help in the kitchen, or you just feel overwhelmed by all the holiday commotion, take a break and try out CBD oil to ease some of the stress and allow yourself to sit back and enjoy the holidays with the people around you. We recommend consulting a doctor if you are considering treating anxiety with CBD on an ongoing basis, especially if you take prescribed medications.
Have a happy and stress-free holiday from all of us at Half Day CBD!
