COVID 19: How CBD Can Help Amidst These Uncertain Times

RIght now, our world is experiencing something completely unprecedented. With the COVID-19 global pandemic affecting every corner of our planet, all of us are desperately looking for ways to achieve at least some air of normalcy during these uncertain times. Luckily for us, nature’s CBD may be able to do that.

Short for cannabidiol, CBD is a non-psychoactive chemical compound found within the hemp plant. This cannabinoid has been found to provide therapeutic benefits in various aspects, including anxiety, mood, and achieving overall homeostasis. Back in our everyday lives, experiencing any of these things can help us feel better and more relaxed; but during a time like this, CBD’s properties may be able to give us the boosts we need to get us feeling more like ourselves again.

CBD and anxiety

Over the past decade or so, more people have begun turning to CBD as an aid for their anxiety. Though it cannot treat the actual psychiatric condition, many have found it beneficial in reducing the symptoms that it brings. In general, reduction of tremors, slowed heart rate, and calm, clear thinking have all been reported after consuming CBD, leading us to believe that during a stressful time such as this one, this cannabinoid could be helpful.

The coronavirus is putting extreme stress and discomfort on all of us, throwing our futures completely up in the air. Studies have shown that hemp-derived CBD strains or tinctures that are high in CBD work with our brain’s neurotransmitters to regulate their release, which may help induce more blissful moods or calmness. This relationship has also demonstrated regulation with fear perception, controlling our body’s response to adverse situations with more rationality and logic.

Being more relaxed could help you check things off your to-do list, start a new hobby, or find some inner peace through introspection during quarantine.

CBD and inner balance

As mentioned, CBD users often say it helps them achieve better inner balance, or homeostasis. This cannabinoid is special because it works directly with your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) to help regulate certain enzymes, both inhibiting and prohibiting production, to balance ourselves out internally. With daily stressors, it’s easy for our body’s hormones to be thrown out of whack. So, during this outbreak, we can only imagine the imbalances our bodies are undergoing.

One of the most prominent examples of this is the possibility that CBD could help  reduce cortisol (according to one study) the body’s main stress hormone. When we experience too much cortisol production (during stressful times) our bodies suffer. This can cause headaches, increased anxiety and even trouble sleeping. With the uncertainty that COVID-19 is bringing, being in better control of our body’s reactions can do wonders for our mind and body.

By targeting the molecules that create these imbalances, CBD can help provide relief through achieving homeostasis, and thus, get us feeling more stable. And let’s face it, we could all use a little bit of stability right now.

Motivation, Mental Clarity, and More

Currently, it kind of feels like we’re living in limbo. Nothing is as it was, and we’re trying to find ways to live our lives to some degree of normalcy—though this isn’t easy. Trying to find motivation or even having positive thoughts during this Coronavirus outbreak is proving tough for most of us, leaving many feeling hopeless or even helpless.

In addition to a sense of calm, many CBD users say they notice more mental clarity and motivation, especially when consumed at the start of the day. This boost may be exactly what we need to tackle the strange days that this outbreak has created. Now is the perfect time to experiment with a side of CBD with your breakfast or in your coffee or tea!

A little help and hope

With the high amounts of stress and uncertainty, self-care is important—and for many, CBD is a big part of that routine.

If you find yourself feeling extra anxious, uncomfortable, or stressed during this pandemic, you’re not alone. Don’t be afraid to reach out to others who may be in the same boat, or find online mental health resources if need be. Together, we’ll see the end of COVID-19; in the meantime, experiment with some CBD self-care and see what works for you!
