Hemp Glossary

As you’re learning about CBD, there are the key terms you should know to raise your awareness and understanding of the product. Please contact us if you have any deeper questions related to CBD or Hemp.

Industrial Hemp

Industrial Hemp is a species of Cannabis that can be used for 25,000 different product applications. From Medicine to Construction Materials to Paper, Industrial Hemp is versatile because of it’s nutrients rich biomass and thick stalks. Industrial Hemp was outlawed in 1937 because of their resemblance to Marijuana and are making a comeback because of the potential it has as an agricultural commodity. Industrial Hemp plants contain less than 0.3% THC and can be legally grown in the United States.

CBD

CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of over 85 cannabis compounds found in industrial hemp that provides significant medical benefits impacting physical and mental wellness.*  The fact that CBD is non-psychoactive makes CBD an appealing option for patients looking for relief from health conditions without disconcerting feelings of tiredness or fogginess. CBD activates the endocannabinoid system which has been scientifically found to contribute to regulatory functions in health and disease.

Distillate

The process of distillation means to purify something. Distillate is a form of purified hemp extract that comes from heating the extract into vapor and than rapidly cooling to convert the vapor back into liquid.

MCT oil is common carrier oil for CBD that stands for “Medium-chain Triglycerides”. MCT is essentially fractionated coconut oil which acts as a flavorless and easy to digest fatty acid. Since CBD is fat soluble, this makes for a great pairing to provide a natural and organic method of taking CBD.

Terpenes are what give a Hemp plant it’s flavor and aroma. There are more than 100 different types of terpenes and each strain will have it’s unique combination of Terpenes. At Half Day CBD, Terpenes are kept in the oil to ensure you are getting the effect of consuming the whole plant.
